
A cybersecurity workshop for Bucks County Community College faculty and students is being offered as part of the Cyber Service Academy (CSA) Capacity-Building Project to recruit more students to enter the cybersecurity workforce. Dr. Waleed Farag, Director, Ä¢¹½tv Institute for Cybersecurity
Session Title: Creating a Model Cybersecurity Eco-System in Western Pennsylvania to Strengthen the National Cyber Workforce
Speaker Bio: Waleed Farag is a professor of computer science at Ä¢¹½tv and the director of the Ä¢¹½tv Institute for Cyber Security. Farag’s research interests include cybersecurity education, network and IoT systems security, e-learning, and multimedia applications. He has published over 50 articles in recognized national and international journals and conferences. Farag has an outstanding record of securing funds to support his research and is currently the PI of several federally funded grants that support his personally founded unique initiatives contributing to the enhancement of cybersecurity education and research at Ä¢¹½tv and the surrounding regions.
Mr. Jon David, Managing Director and Cofounder, NR Labs
Session Title: Behind the Breach: War Stories and Practical Defenses
Speaker Bio: Jon David, a former director at Mandiant, boasts over 15 years of extensive experience in both private and DoD cybersecurity sectors. His expertise lies in enabling organizations to comprehend their threat landscape, strategically prioritize defenses, and effectively mitigate exposure to malicious threats. Throughout his career, David has played a pivotal role in aiding numerous enterprises across diverse industries in identifying and addressing vulnerabilities within complex environments. Drawing from this wealth of experience, he intimately understands the unique challenges each industry encounters when safeguarding its digital ecosystems.
Dr. Xinwen Wu, Associate Professor, University of Mary Washington
Session Titles: Message Authentication Against Network Attacks and Raspberry Pi in Cybersecurity
Speaker Bio: Xin-wen Wu, PhD, has worked in cybersecurity and various related areas as a researcher and educator over the last two decades. He has published two books, a monograph, and numerous research articles in reputable journals and international conferences. Wu is a faculty member at the University of Mary Washington. He was also affiliated with Ä¢¹½tv, extending his academic experience at several research-focused universities, including the University of California at San Diego and the University of Melbourne in Australia.
Mr. Vince Peeler, Community Faculty, Metro State University
Session Title: Proactive Cyber Defense Utilizing Cyber Intelligence.
Speaker Bio: A 25-year veteran of the US Navy, Vince Peeler excelled in electronic warfare, founded the Electronic Warfare Academy in Baghdad, and led cyber intelligence teams. Now, he directs the Human Risk program at Children’s Hospital Minnesota, teaches at Metropolitan State University, and shares his expertise on his Substack, The Intelligence Cycle.
